Meet Mina Ekladious
For District 9 Commissioner

Mina Ekladious was born in Cairo, Egypt, and immigrated to Kearny, New Jersey with his parents and brother at just two years old. Raised in the community he now proudly serves, Mina learned early the values of hard work, family, and service. He currently serves as a law enforcement officer with the Kearny Police Department and as President of the Kearny Policemen’s Benevolent Association, where he advocates daily for the safety, dignity, and well-being of both residents and union members. Now running for Hudson County Commissioner in District 9, Mina is driven by a deep commitment to give back to the community that gave his family opportunity and to represent the district’s diverse voices with integrity, respect, and unity.

What is the role of a County Commissioner?

Hudson County Commissioners are the elected officials who run our county government, essentially the county-wide version of a city or town council. They pass local laws, oversee critical public services, and decide how hundreds of millions of tax dollars are spent each year.

County government plays a major role in our daily lives, often in ways people don’t realize. Commissioners make decisions that impact the judicial system, law enforcement, education, the environment, open space, job training, economic development, housing, and support for our local communities. They fund and oversee core public services including:

District 9 includes Kearny, Harrison, East Newark, Secaucus, and Jersey City.

Workforce Development

County Roads & Public Property

Family Services

Corrections & Rehabilitation

Health & Human Services

Aging & Veteran Affairs

Education

Economic Development

In fact, Hudson County Commissioners vote on a budget of over $700 million, shaping everything from infrastructure to essential public programs across our communities.

But here’s the problem: most residents don’t know who their commissioner is or what they actually do.

That’s why accountability matters and why this race matters.

Think of a County Commissioner like a City Councilmember for the whole county. They pass local laws that affect housing, transit, parking, and public safety—and they decide how much each department gets.

Yet most people don’t know who their commissioner is or what they do. That’s why accountability matters —and why this race matters.
